With a rugged and raw appearance, styling is still evidently all important thanks to a custom Safari vinyl with the mythical Porsche ghost font.
With this project having recently been finished the cabin is in first class condition with Momo Prototipo wheel and Balsa 917 gear knob another nod to motorsport heritage although pleasingly an up to date Bluetooth / DAB head unit offers more modern day connectivity.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This 930/20 unit has been nurtured throughout its 30 years and the car barks into life with that familiar flat six howl. Presentation is extremely clean with factory stickers present and correct, whilst the most recent major service included replacing the plugs, all filters and the tappets adjusted.
Engine performance is responsive and thanks to an SSI exhaust system really quite raw in keeping with the go-anywhere styling – symptomatic of the earlier 3.2s.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 16″ Fuchs wheels remain but are now fitted with BF-Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 tyres squeezed into the wide arches, providing exceptional grip in the rear wheel drive set up thanks to the positioning of the Flat-6 in the back.
Heavily modified suspension also gives a helping hand with Bilstein struts maintaining stock geometry, increasing the ground clearance and soaking up any bumps along the way. Suspension rubbers have been replaced to ensure the Safari’s handling is tight and precise.
The braking system has been totally overhauled with new hardware all round as well as a fluid flush with high temperature fluid.
HISTORY FILE
First delivered on New Year’s Day 1987, this G50 equipped 3.2 was first sold by Roger Clark Cars Ltd.
With 14 stamps in the original service book, and latterly invoicing from Tognola, Tuthills and Auto Farm, this 3 owner Carrera was very well looked after prior to it’s recent overhaul. It was the combination of mileage, history and provenance that ensured the car was perfectly suitable for the Safari conversion, with the owner of Heritage Autowerks personally involved and aware of this car for the last 25 years having worked at Tognola in the past.
Remaining with the same family for a number of years, the initial concept was to create a more track focused 911 before a long-term client of Heritage was made aware of the car’s availability. The decision was then made to take a totally different direction – an all terrain variant inspired by the Paris – Dakar rally. With the specialists’ ongoing expertise, and given the emerging fascination for go-anywhere special vehicles such as you see with Porsche’s current ‘Dakar’ model, this is a unique opportunity to own a classic G model with a twist.
All of the vehicles history is accounted for since Day 1 and with a fresh service and 4 wheel alignment the car is ready to enjoy on or off road as you please. No restrictions, all the fun!
The car is supplied having had an extensive intake inspection. Warranty, Finance, Part Exchange and Worldwide shipping are all available on request.
