This original ‘F-Series’ Porsche 911T was built in 1973 and supplied new to the United States in left-hand drive. Finished in Tangerine Orange (paint code #2323) with black leatherette, the car originally came with optional equipment such as Koni shock absorbers, a rear spoiler, and tinted glass all round. After a handful of owners in the US, it was decided by long-term owner Tom Wilkinson in Oregon to create something special and that is precisely what he did. Respected Porsche specialist Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport, Oregon was commissioned to build a free-revving, lightened and balanced 2.7-litre engine based on genuine 1974 7R crankcases. The build spec included 10thou overbored crankcases, reconditioned conrods, new phosphorus bronze valve guides, 36mm throttle bodies, an upgraded oil pump, and a fuel pump to RS-specification. This engine was then married to a 915 transmission with a Quaife LSD and Wevo short-shifter. Bilstein sport dampers front and rear, turbo tie rods, uprated torsion bars and disc brakes all-round ensure this stunning 911 handles and stops as well as it goes. After being carefully reassembled with weight saving a priority, the car was placed on 911R Fuchs alloys wheels. Open the driver’s door and you are greeted with a genuine period 380mm competition steering wheel with a hockypuk centre cap, a 10k tachometer, black lightweight perlon carpet, lightweight door cards and period ST style seats trimmed in corduroy. The glove box has a discreet power socket for modern MP3 players and sat-nav systems. Imported to the UK in April 2013, the car has since been enjoyed on European roads trips, but is now being reluctantly offered for sale. The eagle eyed amongst you, may have spotted it earlier this year at another Porsche specialist being marketed for considerably more money and more recently in an auction, for what appeared to be an attractive guide price. However, with auction fees and VAT applied, this pushed the price up to uncomfortable levels for a car being offered without any preparation or warranty, so it didn’t find a new home. Having carried out our pre -sale inspection, we are pleased to inform interested parties that once the car has been prepared in our workshop, it is here to be sold with 12 months MOT and 6 months in house warranty for total peace of mind. They say to bake a good cake, you need the best ingredients and the same is certainly true when creating a great hot rod 911. This stunning R Gruppe inspired 911 certainly has those ingredients and simply couldn’t be built for the asking price today.
