Porsche itself was also busy improving around 52 years ago; in 1972, the "original 911" was slightly modified before becoming the G-model. This adaptation proved perfect on paper. After the battery was split in two in the nose to distribute weight, the fluid distribution could not be left behind. They then decided on an oil system that could be refilled via an "oil valve" at the rear. Everything used to be better, the gas stations were manned and they even filled up for you! You guessed it; most '72s ran on mixed lubrication on the street corner… This led to so many complaints that production was stopped after 1523 units. One of Ferdinand's biggest mistakes, today one of the most sought-after 911s among enthusiasts.
Ours started out as an original T with a 2.4 engine. It was completely tackled and reworked four years ago. Born out of passion and emotion, every rational part was left out. It's made from bare stock with no filler and sprayed in slate gray. Its beating air-cooled heart was replaced with a direct-injected 3.2 with a lightweight flywheel that breathed through a custom-built exhaust. Its transmission was swapped for a G50 gearbox and all the underlying engineering was put together by specialists. Its suspension, for example, was supplied by Billstein, its brakes by APP Racing and they all boast "unique features". For example, its hood wears an electrically operated 964 spoiler, all windows (including the roof) are electric and its headlights are handmade (a nod to the 991 and 992 generation with four LEDs as daytime running lights). Necessary? NO. Pretty? Terribly unique! You don't have that, neighbor!
Including the base (donor), the project cost more than 50% more than the current asking price. But that wasn't the point, it was about translating a vision of a great Porsche collector and enthusiast onto four wheels. Now, after 3,400 km, she is looking for her next loving home. Will we see you soon?
