911 2.5 ST replica
Trying to define an S/T can be difficult. Because the name didn't exist, at least officially. It only became established over time. Even back then, the exact specification was by no means set in stone and could vary depending on the car's intended use – because the S/T were used equally in rallies, hill climbs and circuit races. Porsche built 21 or 24 of these (production numbers vary depending on the source). There were also those vehicles that were upgraded to S/T versions by private owners and teams using purchased components from the factory.
The long-time head of the Porsche customer sports department and overall Le Mans winner in 1977, Jürgen Barth, who was closely involved in the development of the S/T, suspects where the name came from: the Porsche developers' pursuit of less weight brought it up The idea of linking the name of the spartan basic model “T” with “S” like Sport, the internal name was born: S/T.

The vehicle in detail

It was the basis for the development and construction of legendary racing vehicles such as the 2.7 RS, 2.8 RSR etc., but was rawer and its finish was still very far from series production. Its body seemed improvised compared to production vehicles and had no priorities such as paint surface, gap corrections and other visual details. Above all, the S/T should be light and fast. His specifications were brief: deeper, wider, harder, faster. So the engineers threw everything out of the car that wasn't nailed down. In the few cases of factory builds (two dozen examples at best) it was easy to see what Porsche was willing to forego in order to save every conceivable gram… even balsa wood was used to stiffen the plastic hoods, the model industry sends its regards.
The result: one of the most successful racing vehicles of its time, suitable for all conceivable events up to the premier class, 24 Hours of LeMans. Group 3, Group 4, circuits of all kinds, mountain races, even slaloms and rally events of all kinds: the S/T in the 2.3 and 2.5 liter versions was the all-purpose weapon for factory use as well as for private racing drivers, some of whom used their vehicles to drive to the office during the week and won trophies on race tracks around the world at the weekend.

For our part, we can finally provide the result of our comprehensive test with an extensive test drive – finding a better and more authentically constructed 2.5 S/T replica will be very difficult or even impossible. What impresses us first and foremost is the quality of the workmanship of all trades and the harmony of all the interlocking building blocks! Gearbox, engine, gear ratio, chassis choice and setup/geometry have reference character. The interaction of all the essential parameters that make sporty driving on public roads pure pleasure is exemplary! As a committed driver, you are inclined to set aside a permanent place for a helmet, which you can put on when the route and traffic conditions are suitable…not forgetting driving gloves and light footwear.
What this car offers us can hardly be bought today for any amount of money. For the sake of your wallet, you shouldn't think about rebuilding – no matter how you calculate it. You end up with 50 to 100% more (depending on how much work you do yourself and who builds the body and technology), with luck you get your car in a few years, and then drive it for several more seasons until it “fits”. After around 30 vehicles of this type in various quality levels over the last few years, we can make a reliable statement: if you want to drive a replica of one of the most famous, successful racing sports cars of its era, it can probably do everything essential as well or even better than the original itself , you should definitely visit us. We would be happy to show you what is important about these vehicles and what this 2.5 ST replica in an ingenious color combination is all about.
