Porsche 911 E

Targa, 1971

Highlights

  • Complete restoration
  • Mechanical TOP !
  • Rare model

‘Collection by Vermant’ is pleased to be able to offer you this very rare 911 Targa, first registered in December 1971. This is the so-called “ölklappe” version, the variant with the external oil filler cap behind the passenger door, used exclusively on the 911 cars of the model year 1972 and with the aim of obtaining a better weight distribution between the front and rear.

This 2.4 E was delivered new in Germany and a few years later ended up with a very passionate Swedish owner, who only used the car during the beautiful summer months. During  the harsh Swedish winters, the car was always unscathed and  safely stored to be neatly re-registered the following summer.  The documentation of this process and the correspondence about it is available in the extensive file of the car. In 2017, the car ended up in a private collection in Belgium.

The vehicle in detail

The Porsche 911 Targa is an icon in the history of the German sports car manufacturer. Its special roof construction with removable middle section and permanently mounted safety bar gave it a unique appearance and a trademark in the Porsche range. By the way, the name Targa came from the Targa Florio, the famous endurance race that was held in Italy from 1906 to 1977 and where Porsche managed to achieve handsome victories. The first Porsche with a Targa roof was presented at the IAA Motor Show in September 1965.

In 1973, 23.358 Targa units had been built based on the Porsche 911 F model.

This 911 E Targa is equipped with a 2.4 liter air-cooled 6 cylinder engine with a Bosch mechanical injection system and is coupled to a Sportomatic semi-automatic gearbox. This is a gearbox that works without a clutch, but where the driver had to engage the gears himself. Over the years, many of these gearboxes have fallen by the wayside, which makes this car even more unique.

Recently, the entire mechanical part of the car has been taken care of, with the engine completely overhauled and the gearbox also received a major inspection. During these works, not only the mechanical part was done, but also the bodywork was given the necessary love. For example, some light repairs have been made to the car and the car has been provided with a completely new coat of paint in the original and very rare color Aubergine. The interior, which is probably still in its original condition, is still in excellent condition and has acquired a beautiful patina over the years. Here we find the original Recaro seats with a Pepita middle piece, as originally delivered. This Targa is also equipped with the beautiful 15-inch Fuchs rims and the contemporary Blaupunkt Köln radio.

The car has been officially imported into Belgium and comes with an unimaginably thick documentation with all official documents from the tourist office in Sweden, all maintenance invoices, all invoices of the restorations and the “Certificate of Authenticity” issued by Porsche for these matching numbers 911 E.

A beautiful and unique car that you could only dream of, until now….
