He presumably only drove the car briefly. Following delivery, he left the car to his friend and partner at Solar Productions – actor Stu Nisbet – who verifiably drove the Targa from 1971 to 1995. We therefore have all the complete, comprehensive documentation regarding its origin, maintenance, and mileage. One must never forget such things – more than 50 years have passed since then. Most contemporary witnesses have either sadly passed away or have, at best, vague memories, but most unfortunately, no such details at all.
The original US title with Steve McQueen as the owner was available until the 1990s and was affixed to the inside of the rear Targa window at a Stimming presentation to prove and document the vehicle's origins beyond the existing documents. Unfortunately, a trophy hunter stole this supporting document for his own personal gain. We failed in several attempts to obtain a duplicate copy from official authorities. Understandable – considering that over 50 years have passed since then, and even archives of this kind usually don't exceed their limits.
Both in its condition and its provenance make this special Targa 2.2E a true collector's item that deserves a worthy place in a reputable collection. While the vehicle has been regularly serviced and driven for the past 30 years or so, it has barely covered 5,000 km in those three decades. We have been maintaining the vehicle ourselves for around 15 years and know it inside and out.
