In September 1963 at the IAA in Frankfurt, Porsche presented its 901 to the public as the heir to the 356. A year later, mass production began of the model which would shortly be called 911. Initially produced only in the Coupé version, the 911 boasted a self-supporting body and a 2.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, which initially produced 130 hp. From 1967 the 911 was also available in the Targa version, with fixed roll-bar and retractable folding roof. In 1969 the wheelbase was lengthened in favor of greater ride comfort and a more stable grip and, in the following years, models with the abbreviations T, L and E followed one another. With the E model the 2.0-liter engines came to last year of production and were later replaced by new 2.2-liter engine groups.
