The production number for this vehicle noted at Porsche Classic is 1037432. In the course of researching the vehicle, specifically the production number ∗0040004∗, various sources of information were used and the statements of the first owner Roland Martin were interpreted. In addition, the chassis number was checked using the magneto-optical resonance method. According to Porsche development engineer Roland Martin, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (Touring) in question was rebuilt and completed for him at Werk1 (Rep. Werk) at the end of 1972 / beginning of 1973. This construction was done because Mr. Martin had a serious accident with his previous vehicle (prototype lightweight 911) in March 1972. Mr. Martin actually wanted to order an RS limited to 500 pieces. However, this was no longer possible. The Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring, newly built in Werk1, has passed the acceptance point in series production (counting point 8) and received series status. In the course of the research, the current owner was in regular contact with Mr. Roland Martin by telephone and email between May and November 2016.
The Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 (Touring) (M472) was delivered to Mr. Roland Martin in May 1973 with the VIN/production number ∗9113601221/∗0040004∗. In order to document the special creation, the marking ∗0040004∗ was set. This numbering was also used by the racing department, among others, when a racing vehicle or special vehicle was built here. Among other things, a replacement body type 911 RSR 3.0 with number 0040005 was delivered to Kremer in Cologne in 1974.
Summary:
Checking the chassis number using magnetoopic resonance methods did not reveal any abnormalities, so that manipulation directly in the chassis number area can be ruled out. Despite intensive research and constant contact with the first owner, Mr. Roland Martin, it was not possible to find out exactly why only the production number 1037432 is documented at Porsche Classic. These were probably internal options at Porsche at the time.
