Pie Performance are delighted to offer for sale this 1976 Porsche 911 3.0 Carrera with motorsport history. If you’ve dreamed of sprints and hillclimbs or of an exhilarating classic 911 road car this is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a close to race ready Porsche 911 with a high specification freshly rebuilt 3200cc flat six and wide body  with an estimated 270+BHP.

The car commenced life in September 1976 being built in Stuttgart to UK specification and being delivered to the UK and first sold in October 1976 as per the authenticity letter we have from Porsche and was a Carrera 3.0l.

Today it looks quite different, as shown, and the accompanying notes detail the known history and upgrades to date. Please look through the images to see some of the historical references.

Little is then known about the car until November 1998, but it is believed the car may have resided abroad during some of this time as a previous overseas owner is noted in the V5 document.

Records and MOTs in the current owners file commence in July 1997 which show it was originally yellow or had already been colour changed as it is suspected it was already being used for Motorsport at that time and probably had been for some time.

At that time photos of it racing show that it had not been wide-bodied, but there is a folder of receipts from November 1998 to date. These receipts evidence various motorsport elements including an engine and gearbox re-build in 2006 during which time the capacity was increased to 3.2l with new barrels and pistons which turned out to be a very well configured engine as noted in its very recent re-build later herein.

It was then colour-changed to white and on the last motorsport record it held is it’s 2006-7 MSA licence, it is believed that some time over this period it was also wide-bodied, and which has been improved by the current owner.

The car was featured in Total 911 magazine Issue 59 which the current owner still has and he purchased the car after that in March 2010 with the full intention of taking it back into historic racing and pursuing his own ambition to race rather than just own classic cars. However, his plans were thwarted by his kids who had their own successful sporting ambitions which he correctly put before his own and while he has owned this car since 2010 it has not to date resurrected its motorsport abilities although it remains largely ready to do so. It has however enjoyed an occasionally used road life, mainly doing classic car trips and events in the UK and abroad.

Over the time of the current owner’s tenure there are receipts for £49,000 including some key works undertaken as listed below which serve to confirm the attention paid to this car while intentionally not removing the patina of its motorsport life, or as the current owner states “it is what it is and does not pretend to be anything else, unlike many of the resto-mods or back-dates that seem to be common today…”

2011

Hoyle Fox – Stub axles and brakes had not been professionally aligned, probably okay on track but bumps on road caused pad push-back and brake hesitation. Front hubs, stub axles, spacers and bearings re-engineered to remove vibration plus various other works.

£1,287.31

2013

Design 911 – Original 9J Fuchs rears not considered safe for Motorsport when still the plan as  re-finished too many times so replaced with 2 x Braid wheels (original stripped 9J Fuchs  included in sale).

£1,293.60

Francis Tuthill – Car went in for service, assessment and valuation, in addition wheels finished in original RSR spec (at cost of £372 per wheel) and which was when rear Fuchs were actually replaced as above.

£3,149.64

Francis Tuthill – During above assessment some bubbling and condensation noted in wide body wings as arches had been riveted on when originally done. All wide arches and bonnet removed, any inner wing rot cut-out and panels replaced, new fibreglass bonnet and front wide arches and removed rear arches now glued professionally using modern methods. Also new front bumper to better align with bonnet and all re-painted including black headlight surrounds and fresh graphics.

£9,898.32

2016

MJS Services – Initially just a service, but got carried away with lightly weeping gearbox re-assembled to
seal leak, new sintered paddle clutch while all apart, gearbox & engine mounts done and exhaust exit pipes re-shaped to horizontal from down angled (aesthetic but looks better).

£2,482.89

2017

AW Smart – Rear end bodywork to tidy up engine cover fixings and refine rear bumper and exhaust exit cut-outs with heat guards removed and all re-painted.

£1,866.00

2018/2019

Pie Performance – Previous poor performing twin master cylinder brake system removed and replaced with original Porsche pedal box and materially uprated race spec master cylinder to give excellent braking pressure, all calipers re-built with new Pagid fast road pads, new Toyo R888Rs, shift couplings all replaced and lots of other general maintenance upgrades.  (Note – There is no brake bias valve currently, but one could be easily fitted).

£7,252.83

2020

Pie Performance – Rust and rot found in lower front end meant entire lower front end re-built with panels all round, suspension bushes as all apart and took advantage of this to also switch to a proper race set up front mounted oil cooler.

new £7,313.42

2023

Pie Performance – Blue smoke and rings failing meant time for a full engine re-build, total strip down and all  worn parts replaced plus rev counter sent off to be fixed as never worked (just used the shift light fitted). Some pleasant surprises including JE Forged race pistons, upgraded camshafts and various other obvious signs of what had been a well-built race engine. Also noted that the previous change to 3.2l was not a re-bore but running correct specialist Mahle 3.2 barrels.

£13,495.47

So to sum up the car today…

Mileage uncertain as clocks replaced but MOTs suggest it may be around 125k, but given the works undertaken throughout her life and in current owner’s tenure alone, the mileage is in fact totally irrelevant to the condition and preparation of the car.

Weighs around 1 ton, with expected 270+ bhp (was previous dyno tested at 255bhp but pre-engine re-build and very noticeably sharper/quicker as a result). Would no doubt hit 300+ bhp with throttle bodies which was next on current owners list before choosing to sell through a lack of use and needing space for other toys…

She runs larger calipers than standard, from a 930 based on Total 911 article (but suspect may be more modern such as 964 kit), and hence 16” wheels still as original which clear the calipers shod with Toyo R888Rs.

Tax and MOT exempt (unless taken abroad when a MOT is required).

No servos, no heaters, no electric windows or driving aids and only a lightly baffled custom built exhaust.

It is you, the car and a soundtrack to die for…in a fun and fast rare 911 that gets lots of attention wherever it goes.
