The M491 option was first introduced in 1984 and features spoilers from the contemporary 911 Turbo as well as wider front and rear fenders. The factory rear bumperettes have been removed, and the factory engine cover and “tea tray” rear spoiler were reinstalled under current ownership. Additional equipment includes a replacement black soft top, a matching top boot, and heated power-adjustable mirrors. The front hood struts were replaced under current ownership. A collection of paint meter readings can be seen in the gallery below. Black 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels with silver lips were installed under current ownership along with Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires. M491-specific equipment includes Turbo-specification brakes, anti-roll bars, trailing arms, and torsion bars, and the the shocks were reportedly replaced in 2022.
The cabin features front seats upholstered in red leather along with color-coordinated door panel inserts. Amenities include a power-adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, air conditioning, and power windows. An Alpine stereo and patterned floor mats were installed under previous ownership, and an aftermarket alarm system was fitted in November 2022. The air conditioning system is said to have been recharged under current ownership. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a central tachometer with a 6,300-rpm redline as well as a 170-mph speedometer and gauges for oil level, oil pressure, oil temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 57k miles, approximately 700 of which were added under current ownership. The Quarz clock does not function. The 3.2-liter M930/21 flat-six was factory rated at 202 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle.
A copy of the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists a production completion date of December 2, 1985, as well as powertrain numbers, factory colors, and optional equipment. Photos of the corresponding engine and transaxle stamps are provided in the gallery below. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Michigan, Ohio, California, and Pennsylvania from its first entry in May 1995.
