The vehicle in detail

Chassis No. WP0EB0917KS173601

Conceived in the wake of the 911 Cabriolet’s success, the limited-production Porsche 911 Speedster of 1989 emerged as a fitting finale to the G-Series 911 lineage. Porsche’s design team, led by Tony Lapine, drew inspiration from the 356 Speedster while utilizing the contemporary 3.2 Carrera chassis. The concept, unveiled as the Speedster Studie, captivated audiences with its sleek silhouette rendered in Pearlescent White Metallic, featuring a rakish windscreen and the now-iconic double-hump tonneau cover. Following its well-received debut at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production Speedster arrived in 1989, coinciding with the 911’s 25th anniversary and the conclusion of the G-Series generation.

The Speedster’s design was a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary elements. While most examples were based on the wide-bodied 911 “Turbo Look” Cabriolet, they abandoned the prominent “tea tray” rear wing and deeper front spoiler in favor of a more streamlined profile.

The model’s defining features included dramatically flared wheel arches and a steeply raked windshield that flowed into a low-profile Haartz manual soft top. Perhaps most distinctive was the Speedster’s svelte rear end, where the traditional back seats gave way to a sculpted tonneau cover, creating the model’s signature humpback silhouette.

This Guards Red Porsche 911 Speedster is one of just 2,065 examples produced for 1989, completed on 22 June of that year. Attractively fitted with a Black convertible top and trimmed with Black partial leather interior, the car was well-equipped from the factory with optional electrically height-adjustable sport seats left and right, air conditioning, cruise control, a shorter gear shift lever, storage in place of the rear seats, and a standard radio. The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report begins in 1990, when it was registered to its original owner in Floral Park, New York. It remained on the East Coast for over a decade before being relocated to California in 2004, showing approximately 9,347 miles. Subsequent registrations place the Speedster in New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, Connecticut, and most recently North Carolina from 2019 to present. A service invoice on file from European Performance, Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina shows that in December 2019 at 10,877 miles, the car was treated to a valve adjustment and engine oil service, new A/C and alternator belts, new engine insulating pad, transmission and brake fluid change, new windshield washer pump, and A/C system recharge with R-124A refrigerant.

This collectable Guards Red Speedster is offered with 11,135 niles and includes its books, tool roll, jack, and tire inflator. With Porsche continuing to pay homage to the Speedster into the 991 generation, the 911 Speedster is clearly an evergreen classic that will continue to attract collectors’ attention due to both its good looks and limited production numbers. This low-mileage, well-appointed, original example represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable G-Series Porsche models ever built.
