The 3.2 was presented at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show. It replaced the SC, without making any major changes to the look. Perhaps the biggest difference is the rear monogram, which changes from a tangled “911” from “SC” to “Carrera”. A name, and a series, which will become legendary. First, because the 3.2 confirms the revival of the 911, which began with the 204 hp SC. Then because, like its predecessor, the 3.2 is indestructible. This will allow it to forge a reputation in solid gold as soon as it enters the second-hand market. Finally, perhaps, because many people consider it to be the last “real 911” (and yes, again!) Before the introduction of a much more modernized 964, with a very different look and some youthful worries. . The 3.2 has had a long career, but paradoxically without many changes. The mechanics, with the increase in displacement, remained broadly the same until 1989, when the 964 was presented.
The 231 hp of the 3.2 are reached at 5900 rpm and the electronic management is brand new with a single Bosch Motronic unit now grouping together the ignition, power supply and engine temperature and ambient air measurements. The biggest change is finally the G50 gearbox, which replaces the 915 at salon 86, so for the 87 vintage. Designed for the 2.4, the 915 still dated from 1972. The firmness of its synchros is starting to get really annoying. The G50’s Borg Warner syncs change everything. The gears are easier to shift. In fact, the real difficulty with 3.2 is the overlap between the catalyzed and non-catalyzed versions. Because Porsche has offered both, in order to meet the demands of markets more concerned with pollution than Europe, such as the USA or Japan. The catalyzed version even improved in power with the arrival of the G50 gearbox. All this means that we can find 3 different power levels on the 3.2, not to mention those which, born uncatalyzed, then became catalyzed by intervention at the dealership and which would revolve around 220 hp! The period 3.2 is really good for the 911. It marks in particular the official launch of the Turbolook. On 3.2 this will be an option while later, from 993, the Turbolooks will become models in their own right. The 3.2 is also the return of a legendary name, the Speedster. Finally, it is also the revival of the 100% pistarde philosophy carried in 1973 by the RS 2.7 with the Carrera Clubsport, a light version (but not vitaminized) of the 3.2 G50.
This Porsche 911 Carrera targa G50 is matching numbers, its Porsche certificate, tool kit, 2 keys, manual and notebook are present, its complete file of many invoices is also provided as well as all its technical checks, the Blaupunkt Bremen radio is still in place and in operation, despite its 33 years of service it drives and runs perfectly well, it will be delivered with a major overhaul and a complete check carried out in a Porsche center with a warranty.
