Most notable was the new 3164cc engine that featured a digital motronic 2 electronic (DME) management system and a new Bosch LE Jetronic fuel injection to raise power from 204BHP to 231BHP. This not only gave a 10% improvement in fuel economy, but the top speed also increased from 146mph to 152mph. This engine was significantly more powerful than the previous 3.0-liter unit, and provided improved acceleration and performance. The 3.2-liter engine was also much smoother and more refined, making it a great choice for long-distance driving.

The G50 was also known for its durability and longevity, making it a popular choice among Porsche enthusiasts.
