Starting with the 1984 model year (E-Series), the new generation of naturally aspirated 6-cylinder boxer engines with an expanded 3.2-liter displacement and digital engine electronics (DME) was introduced. This increased power to 231 hp, while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption. In addition to a reinforced crankcase, the improved hydraulic chain tensioner, which was now connected to the engine's oil circuit, eliminated a familiar teething issue with the 911. Since then, the 911 has carried the "Carrera" name suffix and was available as a coupe, Targa, and, since 1982, once again as a convertible.
Since 1965, the term Targa has stood at Porsche for the special roof construction with a removable roof center section and a permanently mounted safety bar. The name was derived from the Targa Florio, the famous Italian endurance race, in which the Zuffenhausen-based company achieved several notable victories over the course of its motorsport career. The successful combination of convertible feel and passenger safety in the 911 remains very popular today.
The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa offered here in the classic Guards Red color is verifiably a German first delivery. The second owner brought the vehicle to sunny Florida in the USA. The 911 later returned to Germany and was professionally repainted in 2019. In 2023, the sports car, with 159,000 km on the clock, had its engine and transmission completely overhauled. An invoice for just under 14,000 euros is available for this. Today, the Porsche, with a current 160,000 km on the clock, awaits its new owner, who can acquire a popular 911 G-Model Targa in outstanding condition.
