Every Porsche enthusiast is now familiar with the “re-imagined” 911s made by the company Singer (no, not the sewing machine brand). Singer starts from shorter hood 911s like the 964 or 993 to backdate them to a longhood 911 classic, adding a lot of details from historic Porsche racing cars. Of course, during this process they also tune the engines to produce a lot more power. Prices of a re-imagined 911 Singer start at USD 475,000 and can go up to USD 1.8 million (or more if desired).
Before Singer was baptized, the path of backdating was already taken by other Porsche enthusiasts. One of these enthusiasts is Siegfried Thom (ST). Siegfried Thom not only produces backdate kits, but has also made around 400 backdated cars in the past (although not only Porsches). This backdating started from a standard 911, which was then completely stripped down to the smallest parts and then rebuilt the cars completely as new to the idea of a legendary shorthood 911.
For the construction of this backdate, ST started from a 1985 carrera to build on the idea of a 911 ST. Siegfried Thom named this project “STR 002”. The identification plate can be found on the front of the car (see photos).
The cylinder capacity of the engine has been increased from 3.2 liters to 3.5 liters and is equipped with an electronic racing injection from the company VGS motorsport. After assembly, the engine was tested on the test bench, which shows an output of 285 hp.
Many parts were perforated to save weight, as was previously done by Porsche with racing cars. The car has a sports rear silencer with central double tailpipes. The interior is of the highest quality. The seats are finished in pipita (black and white checks), as can also be found on classic Porsches.
In addition to the engine, the gearbox was also completely overhauled. Many photos are available of both the engine and gearbox overhaul.
The body was completely stripped and rebuilt to ST look, with widened wheel arches both front and rear, longhood boot lid, F-model front and rear bumpers, racing side mirrors, right rear oil reservoir, etc .. The car was equipped with a fully functional fuel valve in the middle the boot lid.
Since the backdating, this car has only run 1,290km and is therefore indistinguishable from new!
Don’t miss this opportunity to get a 911 backdate for a fraction of the price of a Singer!
