The vehicle in detail

Chassis No. 9116301000
Engine No. 6340178

For many, a Porsche 911 is just a starting point. With a racing history and a legacy of modifications spanning back decades it’s no wonder why many vintage 911s feature customizations with a personal touch. This example is just one of 1,868 Rest of World (RoW) 911 Coupes produced for 1976. It was ordered without a sunroof in Indischrot (Guards Red), a long-lived 911 color first introduced in 1974.

At a point in the early 1980s the car was modified by B. Schuster Porsche-Umbauten to resemble the DP-bodied Porsche 935s so victorious in FIA Group 5 racing the world over. The front fenders were altered with the earliest flared “slantnose” versions without headlights, which were then mounted low, faired into the lightweight fiberglass front bumper. The rear of the car received similar treatment featuring widened fenders with cut air intakes, similar to the 935 race cars.

16-inch body-color BBS wheels fill out the fender arches nicely. The monstrous rear wing from Folger Karosserie-Styling, 935-style door mirrors and painted tri-tone side stripes complete racer for the road exterior look. Inside, modifications include cloth Recaro sport seats, a three-spoke leather Lesmo steering wheel, and a Kenwood rear parcel shelf speaker arrangement. The 2.7-liter air-cooled flat-six powering the coupe was originally fitted to a 911 S, providing a 10-horsepower advantage over the original unit. The Bosch CIS fuel injected engine exhales through stainless steel heat exchangers and a Bursch-style sport exhaust.

According to paperwork the car was imported to the United States in May 1986. The consignor notes that the car remained under single-family ownership until their acquisition in 2023. Today the car remains very much a showcase of late 1970s European-style race-look modifications and is offered with a partial toolkit and U.S. importation paperwork.
