Preservation class 911 with mostly original paint, California black plates, with only four (4) owners. Finished in its original color combination of Irish Green (6606) over Black upholstery. Factory options include a Webasto 002 991 gas heater and an outside left mirror. Originally imported by PoAC, Teaneck and delivered to the first owner, Mr. Whitaker, by Pioneer Auto Inc in Watertown, Connecticut on January 11, 1966. The 911 was then purchased by Fred and Melinda Runnion, the second owner, in July of 1969 from Lukes and Shoreman, a former Porsche repair shop in Albany, California, and was owned for 50 years.
It was used by the wife, parked in the garage around 1982, and not driven until the third owner purchased it in 2019. The 3rd owner purchased the 911 after the husband passed away and decided to preserve (not restore) the car by only fixing or replacing parts as needed.
On July 14, 2020, at 85,933 miles, Mobile Works West in Grass Valley, California, was commissioned by the 3rd owner to rebuild the engine and transmission with over $30,000 spent. A rebuild consisted of disassembling the engine completely, valve job on the cylinder heads, re-ringing the pistons, prepping the cylinders, mag and polished the crankshaft, re-bush and resize the rods, clean, prep, and paint all necessary parts, resealing the engine completely, reinstall, start-up and set specs, top fluid levels, and road test. Other work included installing later-model timing chain tensioners, rebuilding the distributor, and changing the oil, along with replacing the clutch, oil lines, oil-pressure sender, fuel-pickup tube, fuel tank, and battery. The transmission was also rebuilt, replacing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd synchros with new gaskets and seals. A new Dansk fuel tank, fuel lines, and seals were installed in September of 2021 by Turbo Hoses R & D. Most recently, the 4th owner worked with Schneider Autohaus in Santa Barbara, California on May 2, 2022, at 87,810 miles, the following was performed: install the original Solex 40 PII with original distribution pump, replace the engine oil cooler, valve adjustment, change engine oil and oil filter, replace rear control arm bushings, and spring plate bushings – $9,548 was spent.
The paintwork is mostly original except for the hood and rear deck lid. This 911 would be considered in preservation condition, showcasing a remarkable patina with excellent gaps and panel fit. Within the cabin, the black leatherette upholstery is present on the seats, door panels, and dashboard, while the wood dash trim has the “911” badge next to the glove box with a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Additional features include a wooden steering wheel with a horn button, VDO instrumentation with green lettering, and black rubber floor mats. The undercarriage of the vehicle is remarkably straight and original, further accentuating its pristine condition. The chrome-finished 15″ steel wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic 165 15 tires with Porsche crests on the hubcaps.
Mechanically powered by the matching 2.0-lirt flat-six engine producing 130hp at 6,100rpm paired to the matching manual 5-speed transmission with a four-wheel disc braking system. Less than 2,500 miles have been accrued since the engine and transmission have been rebuilt, and as a result, this 911 performs as it should with no issues and plenty of power. Complete with a tool kit, a Porsche Kardex, Owner’s manual, receipts since 2019, two ignition keys, a reproduction ignition and glovebox key, removed Solex carburetors and spare parts, registration documents, black California license plates, and the original pink slip from 1969. A very rare opportunity to acquire a highly original short-wheelbase early 911 with its original driveline and finished in its original color combination.
