Model History
The Porsche 718 Boxster is the modern interpretation of the classic roadster from Zuffenhausen and was introduced in 2016 as the successor to the Boxster 981. The model name "718" is reminiscent of the racing car of the same name from the 1950s and stands for lightweight construction and agility. A significant turning point in the model's history was the switch from six-cylinder naturally aspirated engines to turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engines – a step that caused controversy but significantly improved efficiency and performance.
The base version offers 300 hp from a 2.0-liter turbo engine, while the 718 Boxster S with 2.5 liters and up to 350 hp provides even more dynamic performance. Starting in 2020, variants with the popular naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine returned with the GTS 4.0 and the Spyder – much to the delight of purists.
