The vehicle in detail

We proud to be selling on behalf of one of our very close friends one of the best driving and performing 356’s ever built.

This beautifully presented Carrera 2 coupe has undergone a long term restoration by acclaimed 356 collector Vince Bobba in the US. German delivered and finished in its original body colour, Silver Metallic over Red Leather and presented with a documented restoration file, original tool kit, manuals, glove box accessories, jack and radio.

Ready for immediate use and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

The 2 litre Carrera was the fastest road 356 ever built with a quoted top speed of 125mph. Actual sales began in April 1962 after being announced at the Frankfurt Show in September 1961 and the first Porsche with disc brakes.

The 2.0 Carrera used a variant of the Type 547 engine with a larger bore and stoke, having 1966cc. The larger cylinder wall meant that the block had to be both taller and wider and the type was changed to 587. The new engine offered much more increased low-end torque making it suitable for everyday driving.

OWNERSHIP HISTORY

Chassis number 125002 was completed by Porsche in Stuttgart, Zuffenhausen on the 27th of June 1963 and delivered new in Germany via Muller the Porsche dealership in Hannover on 1st of July 1963.

The Carrera 2 left Germany in 1969 heading to the US to meet its new owner Gill Fritz. After only a short ownership Fritz sold the car to Ron Anthony of Maryland, who again owned 125002 for a short while, selling to Paul Shalita of New Jersey. It then sold to long term owner Geoff Fleming also based in New Jersey around the mid seventies.

Geoff Fleming was the custodian of the car for nearly 4 decades before selling the car to its current owner, well-known 356 Porsche collector Vince Bobba. Vince purchased the Carrera 2 in 2012 and has meticulously restored the car over the past several years.

ORIGINAL ENGINE

The original engine was replaced in the late 1960’s and in its place an unstamped set of early factory cases, showing the 692 casting numbers. These were used until around engine had covered 97,200 miles when the 587 casting arrived.

The engine is concours correct on the outside, inside it has been significantly improved. It has higher compression NOS 904 pistons and cylinders, along with RSK intake cam lobes and 904 exhaust cam lobes. All subsystems have been carefully rebuilt. The performance from 3000 RPM to 6500 is stunning. After rebuild it was run-in on a dyno several different times over a two day period and achieved full power runs at 8000 RPM’s. It runs perfectly and again, is very quiet

***PLEASE NOTE…THE ORIGINAL ENGINE (97 287) IS AVAILABLE AND CAN BE REUNITED WITH THE CAR!
