Polishing cloth fetishists should, with our best recommendation, save themselves the trouble of reading on at this point. This car will not convince you. However, if there are readers among you who appreciate this inimitably natural patina as much as we do, we would be happy to invite you to our workshop to see for yourself a FULLY FUNCTIONAL, but otherwise fairly natural 356.
We came together in a rather adventurous way and bought the Porsche more or less like the proverbial pig in a poke without a test run, standing in a narrow garage in poor lighting conditions. The charmer opened our eyes when we turned the ignition key in our rooms, where the grab bag showed its best side – it drove as if it were a few years young, fresh and unused. It sounds as familiar as only these 4-cylinder boxers can sound. It shifts perfectly and precisely, it steers as it should without any play, and it brakes properly with its 4 huge aluminum drums, without offset, warping or other peculiarities that drum brakes from this era tend to have.
With a little more time, we will go into this vehicle in much more detail and provide a decent description based on what the vehicle itself and the scant history we have tell us.
What we did do, however, is fill the tank to the brim and spend a weekend driving through our wonderful Remstal with its forests, hills and valleys. We realized once again how beautiful it is here and how well this 356 fits into this world. After enjoying around 50 liters of Super Plus and driving several kilometers, we can already make the following statement that you can rely on: This Porsche 356 will take you wherever you want to go and back. Before you set off, quickly check the oil, fill the tank with good premium gasoline, carefully check the air pressure and drive to your desired destination. Whether it's John O'Groats at the northernmost tip of Scotland, or the Strait of Messina to cross from there to Sicily – the Porsche will bring you safely to your destination.
You wouldn't believe how much this feeling is worth to us now when we sit in one of our classic cars and know that we can do it together.
The 356 we're talking about here is one of those.
With our best wishes,
Your dls team
