History of this car.
The car was bought as a new vehicle by Mr. Hoover's mother in New York in 1963 and then given to him in August 1988. The original registration card from New York is enclosed.
There is a shipping company proof from August 1993 that delivered the vehicle overseas to the port of Bremerhaven. As of September 4, 1993, the vehicle was in Germany. The engine was completely rebuilt in 2023 with new connecting rods and the heads were also overhauled – this work was carried out by an engine specialist in Germany.
History of the model
The Porsche 356 was manufactured by the German company Porsche from 1948 to 1965. It was the company's first production car.
The 356 was a lightweight and maneuverable 2-door rear-wheel drive sports car that was available as both a hardtop coupe and an open model. Over the years of production, design innovations were made that contributed to the car's success and popularity in motorsport. Production began in 1948 in Gmünd, Austria.
The 356 was designed by Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche (son of Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche, the company's founder). Like its cousin, the Volkswagen Beetle (which Ferdinand Porsche Senior had designed), the 356 was an air-cooled four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive engine with a unitary tub and body construction.
