According to a copy of the Porsche factory Kardex, this 356 A Super Coupe was completed in July 1956 and sold new via Gl ckler Porsche, the Frankfurtbased Porsche-Volkswagen dealer. It was supplied new with the optional 75 hp Super engine, no. 80345, and was finished in the attractive color scheme of Aquamarine Metallic over gray leather.
The 356 remained in Germany through 1958 and was subsequently exported to the US, eventually settling in the Mid-Atlantic region. As presented today, this Porsche is clearly a well-traveled machine that has developed a fantastic, distressed patina over the past 65 years. Despite its time-weathered appearance and the presence of significant corrosion in lower sections of the body, this 356 was mechanically recommissioned by its previous Virginia-based owner and has since been used as an occasional weekend driver. Significantly, it retains many desirable features including much of its original leather upholstery, a period Telefunken radio, properly date-coded fuel tank, and numbered body panels, as well as its matching-numbers 1600 Super engine. The sale includes a copy of the Porsche Kardex, a partial tool kit, factory jack, and keys.
Whether viewed as a candidate for a complete show-quality restoration or simply maintained as a charismatic driver, its ideal factory specification and uncommon originality set this A Super Coupe apart from the crowd and make it a compelling proposition for collectors.
