The first production car for the Stuttgart firm, the 356, like its big sister the 911, was offered for sale with numerous evolutions. The second iteration (series A) was a sought-after version, while the following evolutions made them more powerful and more polished cars. These first generation cars are increasingly hard to find and are a safe bet for the future.
Our first generation 356 left the factory on October 24, 1958 and has 65,783 unwarranted miles on it and has only covered 2,000 kilometers after its restoration, which was completed in 2022 to finish the restoration undertaken by the previous owner. The vehicle has its original color and engine, with Porsche certificate of authenticity and is in perfect condition, inside and out. Carvertical, Histovec and Kardex reports in our possession. The car is registered in France with a collector’s license. The history contains invoices for the work carried out, available on request.
ENGINE AND GEARBOX
The original engine was refurbished at the end of 2021 in the United States by the Porsche 356 specialist, European Collectibles; it was on its arrival in France that a global refinement of the restoration worth approximately 10,000 euros was carried out by Dad’s little garage in Crest. The engine is fitted with a kit to increase the displacement to 1800cc for more power and torque at low revs and a 12 volt battery has been installed. Once started, the 85-horsepower flat 4 stabilizes quickly and makes no suspicious noise or smoke. On the road, the engine offers good revs with no dips in power, with power modulated by a four-speed transmission. Maintenance up to date, car ready to go anywhere.
EXTERIOR
The changes between the different generations of the 356 make it easy to tell them apart, such as the chrome trim along the rocker panels and a new windscreen to differentiate it from the pre-A. Thanks to a complete restoration, which involved exposing the bodywork, it is in as-new condition and shows no signs of wear. The rare and beautiful Fjord Green colour is a perfect match for the typical 1950s design of the 356 with Reutter bodywork. The chrome rims and chrome trim are in perfect condition. There are no traces of rust on the undercarriages (anti-corrosion and anti-gravel treatment applied), wheel arches or bodywork. A luggage rack is fitted but can be removed at the buyer’s discretion.
INTERIOR
The interior has been completely refurbished in an elegant original beige leatherette colour that contrasts with the exterior color. All the instruments are in working order, the dashboard and the carpets are in perfect condition; the original steering wheel has a slight patina which is not without charm. Some comfort features have been added, such as a windscreen washer, reclining seats and a radio.
CONSUMABLES
In terms of consumables, the Winston Steel Radial tyres, size 185/70 R15, are new, as are the brakes, which are also completely new.
