This 1974 model is the top spec 2.0L that has been fitted with twin Dellorto carburetors and and performance exhaust without a catalytic convertor. Optional equipment include the Appearance Group which consists of center console with clock, oil temp, and volt gauges, fog lamps, chrome bumpers, and dual-tone horn. This 914 was also equipped with the Performance Group which included cast alloy wheels, rear sway bar, and a deeper front air dam. 1974 would be the final year of the chrome bumpers with round fog lamps as 75 regulations would see large, heavy solid rubber units with rectangular lamps. The car was repainted at some point in its original color combo of white over black leatherette. All of the glass is original and correct with the VW markings.. Recently out of long term storage, this 914 has just benefitted from mechanical recommissioning to make it ready for daily road use. The work completed includes rebuilding of the carburetors, full fluid change, new plugs, new battery, and fuel tank cleaning with new fuel hoses. The gearbox was resealed, all 4 brake calipers were rebuilt, new pads and rotors fitted, new brake hoses, and 5 tires were replaced. The rear window glass was also removed and resealed. All lamps, signals, horn, wipers, and gauges function, including the clock. The battery tray has been renewed as well as the engine fire wall pad. Period accessories fitted include Porsche side stripes, front hood crest, rear deco panel, electric rear trunk release, Hella H4 headlamps, black and white coco floor mats, and a Momo leather steering wheel.
Today the 914 is one of the fastest appreciating models from the Porsche air cooled family and values have doubled over the past 5 years. These cars give you all the nostalgic sounds, and feel of vintage sports cars when light weight, simple design, and nimble handling ruled the roads. “It is always the most fun to drive a vintage low horsepower car fast than a modern exotic car slow”. Included with the sale are an owner’s manual, service repair manual, sales brochure, spare tire, jack, and tool kit.
