The vehicle in detail

The factory options fitted include: Becker CR210 cassette stereo w/ trunk mounted CD changer, Dual 8-way power seats, Colored wheel crests, Automatic speed control, and US spec Catalytic converter. Today this 993 is in remarkable condition for its age, the paintwork is in great shape, the interior is like new and it is quite rare to find a manual transmission Targa in today’s marketplace. 993 values have held well over the years and these models have been appreciating due to their “modern classic” collectability. All systems are operational and function as intended and the overall mechanicals are excellent. Included with the sale are an owner’s manual, 3 master remote keys, 2 emergency keys, 1 valet key, original tool roll, jack, spare collapsable tire, service history from 2003 to present, and a clean CarFax report.

The 993 is the best way to enjoy a Porsche in the as-intended air-cooled form with the refinements one has come to expect from a modern car. From ABS to power steering to climate controlled air conditioning and heating. The 993 offers an amazing driving experience while still pampering the driver. You can feel the original 901’s heritage coursing through the car, but you aren’t asked to give up multi-link suspension or modern reliability, and performance. The 993 is quoted as “the last complete ‘modern classic’”; “the 993 was and forever will be that last fresh breath of air that Porsche gave the world; elegance and muscle all in one package.” The 1996 993 featured the (M64/05) 3.6L air-cooled, flat 6 cylinder with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 272 HP and 243 ft pounds of torque at 5000 RPM. Top speed was listed at 168 MPH

The 993 Targa model was introduced for the 1996 model year and featured an innovative all glass, “greenhouse system”. The roof would be the forerunner to modern Panorama type sunroofs allowing the center portion to retract electrically behind the rear window and provide a large opening for open air motoring. Gone would be the old ways of having to get out and remove the roof section and then store it in the boot like the previous Targas. The other positive attribute was that the roof line was the same as the Coupe, although visibility was slightly better out the sides due to larger rear windows. There was no longer a large, thick, B pillar roll bar running from side to side. There is also a power sunshade to keep down bright sunlight and heat if desired. All Targas were equipped with distinctive 17-inch, 2pc, 5 spoke wheels which were optional on other 993 models. The Targa was slightly heavier than a Coupe and the 17-inch wheels give a better ride over rough surfaces as well as giving it a modern 90s feel to the exterior styling.
