The vehicle in detail

This S2 is finished in traditional Guards red over Black interior and still shows almost like new. The paint shines well and has very little defects for its age while the interior has survived extremely well without any cracks to the dash or sun damage to the upholstery. All electronics function as designed. A/C and heat both operate well as do the windows, wipers, locks, cruise, and sunroof. There are some very nice upgrades fitted to the car that really set this S2 apart from the rest. 968 Cup design 5-spoke 16 inch wheels with H& R spacers wear 205/55 and 225/50 Dunlop Direzza DZ101 tires, the original 16 inch Design 90 cast alloy wheels are also included.

The headlamps have been upgraded to E-code H4s and the fog lamp / turn signal assemblies have been replaced with euro spec units allowing you to have both inner yellow fog lamps and outer clear driving lamps on as opposed to the single type on the US spec ones. The stereo is a later Porsche Becker CDR220 and has an iphone/iPod adaptor that operates when the CD changer source is selected, it will also charge your device. The steering wheel fitted is a genuine Porsche Club Sport 3 spoke leather wheel that looks the business and is super comfortable to grip (The original air bags were disposed of due to age expiration). The shocks have been upgraded to adjustable Konis and the brakes are cross drilled Zimmermann disks front and rear. The catalyst is currently not fitted since this car is now exempt from emissions here in the NW (replaced with a free flow non-cat downpipe) but it will be included as well. A partial front end clear bra is fitted along with rear fender guards so sensitive areas will be protected when driving on the freeway.

The real value with this well loved 944 is that a complete engine overhaul was carried out by Chris’s German in January 2017 about 20k miles ago. New pistons, rings, main bearings, rod bearings, timing chain, cam drives, balance shafts, water pump, drive belts, timing belt, and tensioners were installed. A new clutch kit was also fitted. This 944 was driven daily by its current owner since and has been very reliable and has served well on various road trips. At around 135k miles new tires were fitted as well as new ball joints and an alignment. New Koni adjust shocks were fitted at 132k miles. The DME control unit and relay was replaced along with a new knock sensor, clutch master/slave cylinders installed, clutch spring, and fuel injectors rebuilt at 125k miles. The air-conditioning system was updated to R134 at 113k miles with a new compressor, receiver drier, and switch. At 104k miles the hydraulic cam lifters were replaced.

This 944 is truly turn-key, all major components have been addressed over the last 40k miles and everything is in excellent operating condition. If you are looking for a classic front engine, rear transaxle Porsche with cool, bulged fenders when car design was actually unique and individual, this car will check all of the boxes.

The 1990/91 S2 was the final evolution of the highly succesful 944 range. It was the most powerful and quickest naturally aspirated 4-cylinder car that Porsche had produced. The performance was impressive for the day, 149 mph top speed, 0-60 in 6.9 seconds, and a 50/50 weight distribution, thanks to the rear transaxle, gave excellent road manners. The S2 received the clean aerodynamic nose of the Turbo, as well as the larger vented brakes w/ ABS, larger anti roll bars, and staggered 16-inch wheels. For the 91 model year only, the rear end of the 944 was treated to a low rise decklid spoiler that would be carried over to the 968 as opposed to the rubber lip type of the previous models. The split folding rear seat was also a 1991 only feature. The S2 had almost as much power as the early turbos but without the dreaded lag and as a result are some of the most sought after models today for entry level Porsche enthusiasts. A 944 will not break the bank to own and can be used as daily transport or trusty long distance touring cars. Parts and service support is excellent and online 944 forums exist to provide an additional source for how-to jobs you can do at home. Rust is generally not an issue as these cars were fully galvanized from the factory. Overall the powertrain is robust and 100k miles can easily be obtained before any major engine work is needed provided service intervals were followed by previous owners.
