1963 Porsche 356 B Super 90 Coupe by Karmann

Owned by just one family over the past 60 years – Retains numbers-matching engine – Delightful Smyrna Green exterior over a largely original brown leatherette interior – Accompanied by Kardex copy, original sales invoice, factory brochures, invoices dating from the 1960s, and vintage PCA ephemera

The 356 Super 90 was one of Porsche’s fastest production cars, overshadowed only by the rare and mechanically complex four-cam Carreras. First appearing in late 1959 with the introduction of the T5 body update, Super 90s boasted an additional 15 horsepower over the 1600 Super and were considerably more expensive when new. The Super 90’s Type 616/7 pushrod engine used the same big 40-millimeter Solex twin-choke carburetors as the 2.0-liter Carrera engine. Additionally, Super 90s were equipped with Koni shocks and a rear camber compensator spring as standard.

The vehicle in detail

According to its factory Kardex, a copy of which is on file, this attractive example in Smyrna Green (6210) over Brown leatherette left the factory on 10 June 1963 and was delivered to Ronald Day of Wakefield, Massachusetts, who would subsequently enter the car into local race events. Remarkably, this Porsche has remained under the care of just one family from new and, as a result, remains remarkably well-preserved. Most importantly, the numbers-matching Super 90 engine is still fitted under the rear decklid.
It is believed that the exterior was repainted to its correct factory color at some point in the past, while the interior appears to have retained its original upholstery. A truly wonderful and charming cabin with a comfortably worn-in feel, the dashboard further retains the original Blaupunkt radio. Expectedly, given its careful, single-family stewardship, this 356 is accompanied by a variety of desirable documentation, including invoices dating from the 1960s, its original sales invoice, radio warranty book, radio instructions, Bosch guarantee, service booklet, sales brochure, and vintage Porsche Club of America ephemera.
An inviting and easily enjoyed Porsche 356 B, this well-preserved example is ideal as a weekend driver.
