The 911 “S” is an old name that was originally reserved for the sportiest versions of the 911. Reappearing on the 993 and 996 generations, the Carrera S was content to don a partial turbo-look without offering the customer any more horsepower. Now the 997 revives a forty-year-old tradition. Criticized by purists and losing sales of late, the 911 Carrera needed a few updates to regain its sex appeal. More than a genuine new model, the 997 generation is the logical follow-up to the 996, to which it brings a number of aesthetic and technical evolutions. Indeed, the engineers have developed a whole host of new features for this model, the most noteworthy of which is to be found under the hood of the 997 S, with the appearance of a brand-new 3.8 L flat-six offering 355 hp.
