“It all starts with a dream.”

This is a text from an old Porsche poster showing a little boy looking entranced at a 911. It could easily be a photo from today, because many a car enthusiast today still looks at a Porsche just the same. We have seen this look a few times from people who happened to see our newest acquisition. And such a, somewhat greedy, look is not surprising, because who wouldn’t want to become the owner of a sublime Porsche convertible?

The vehicle in detail

We are talking about the Porsche 997 Carrera 4S of the second (and even more improved) series, with first issue date of January 2009, executed in the beautiful warm GT silver and a black full leather interior. These options certainly did not stop there, as the first and German owner checked off just about everything that could be ordered on the list. Too many to display here, so take a look in our “options and accessories” column. All wonderful, even some unique options, that make owning and driving something so beautiful even more attractive. Highlighting a few unique options for a moment: how about a great and pure six-speed manual transmission? At a time when an automatic transmission is most commonly sold, the sporty driver always opts for a wonderful manual transmission, right? History shows that true enthusiast cars like this Porsche is also one of them, and equipped with this, will always remain unique and thus sought after by a number of enthusiasts. In addition, there are a number of options such as the beautiful sports seats, the well-fitting and suede-clad sports steering wheel and idem gear knob, and the also infrequent, color painted interior parts. All very tastefully chosen options.

And then the version: the S, meaning the wide body, which gives the car an even better appearance than the standard version and the 4, which of course stands for 4-wheel drive. This combo makes this car a very desirable and unique specimen, and thus belongs to the true Porsche enthusiast who knows how to value all these things.

Who could also do so were the previous owners, starting with the delivery by Porsche Zentrum München. They also performed maintenance for the first owner until they apparently moved and a fellow dealer took over. In 2002, the car was bought by a Dutch enthusiast who had both the German dealer and Porsche Centrum Amsterdam perform a 111-point check, during which the beautiful convertible was turned inside out. The final conclusion was that, according to these Porsche professionals, it is a perfect car in every respect. Porsche Centrum Gelderland then performed further prescribed maintenance in June 2022 at mileage 43432, and in March 2024 at mileage 62184. Invoices and stamped booklets are present, of course, because without them a car like this does not come to us. We were recently able, after incidentally long hesitation on the part of the owner, to take over the car. We understand that very well, because selling something that is very well liked always causes doubt. In this case, that was made up for by the purchase of a newer model Porsche convertible.

So here we are dealing with not only a unique Porsche, but one that has also been sublimely maintained technically, and has been used by its owners very neatly mainly, as the low mileage of only 66715 indicates, for fun hobby trips. We now sense that there are readers who would very much like to appropriate this desirable 911. Of course, we have no objection to that. On the contrary, we will gladly demonstrate to you your “childhood dream” and make it become “reality.”

History:

The Porsche 997 was the successor to the Porsche 996 and was delivered from July 2004 to the end of 2012. The Porsche 997 is the sixth generation in a continued development of the original (air-cooled) 911. In late 2011, Porsche presented the successor to the 997, the Porsche 991.

The Porsche 997 was released in fifteen different versions. All these versions are equipped with a water-cooled 3.6 liter (max power 345 hp, max torque 390 Nm) or 3.8 liter six-cylinder (max power 385 hp at 6800 rpm, max torque 420 Nm) boxer engine. When the 997 was introduced, the two-wheel-drive Carrera and Carrera S were released first. Next came the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S. Later, the exclusive Carrera GTS and Carrera 4 GTS were released.

Fully in line with the earlier 993 and 996 models, Porsche also released a Targa version of the 997. This is available only as an all-wheel-drive Targa 4 and Targa 4S.

A convertible version of the Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera GTS, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Carrera 4 GTS and the Turbo were also released by Porsche, which feature a folding soft-top.
