For the 2023 Restoration Challenge, our Porsche Classic team sought to perfect an already great Paint-to-Sample Slate Gray Metallic 1996 993 C4S formerly owned by Rudy Macinas, better known as Mr. 993. This 993 was purchased by Harper Porsche at the 22′ Gooding Auction Amelia Island. While this 993 was sought after enough to be presented by a premier auction house, our Porsche Classic team highlighted plenty of opportunities for improvement that led us to enter this 993 in the 2023 Restoration Challenge. With an already solid foundation, we chose to preserve this 993 rather than a complete restoration. On the exterior, a body only respray was performed by Harper Collision; a Porsche Approved Collision Facility. All glass, interior, and drivetrain components were left on the car during paint. Exterior modifications were reverted back to original with correct badging, lighting, classic ‘big red’ brakes, new windshield with appropriate seals and refinished original Turbo twist wheels. On the inside, a leatherique treatment was performed on the factory Gray leather to bring the texture and color back to life. Additional replacement parts were sourced in favor of former interior modifications such as new black seat belts, OEM 993 RS steering wheel, and replacement floormats. Underneath the 993, the drivetrain received an intricate dry ice cleaning freeing years of dirt and grime. Worn out aftermarket coilovers were replaced with new OEM Porsche struts, shocks, and springs set to European 993 RS ride height. At the rear, services to the flatsix were highlighted by a complete engine reseal.
