Following the same formula as the 997-generation car, the 992-generation Sport Classic is instantly recognizable from its brethren due to its ducktail rear spoiler and wide rear wheel arches. However, while that car was based on the naturally aspirated 997 Carrera GTS, for the 992-generation Sport Classic, Porsche decided to raise the bar in terms of performance even further, utilizing the powertrain of the 992-generation 911 Turbo. However, the Sport Classic sports rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, as opposed to the Tubo’s four-wheel drive layout and PDK gearbox. Although the car boasts the wider rear wheel arches of the 911 Turbo, it does without the side air intakes for a more streamlined and timeless appearance. Other retro flairs include gold exterior badging, dark green paint for the instrument faces, and wood trim along the dashboard.
Delivered new to the current owner, this particular Sport Classic sports the model’s launch specification of Sport Grey Metallic over the ‘Heritage Design’ interior finished in Black and Classic Cognac leather with pepita inserts in the seats and door cards. Acquired new by the consignor, it has been driven just under 350 miles from new and as such, presents in virtually as-new condition throughout.
With 1,250 examples produced, this makes the Sport Classic rarer than both the 911 Dakar and 911 S/T. While 992-generation 911 Turbos are renowned for their everyday usability and outright performance, the Sport Classic is targeted towards enthusiasts and students of Porsche history yet makes no compromises in terms of modern performance. These cars will be sought after by enthusiasts for years to come, and this particular example is ready to be used and enjoyed as Porsche intended.
