In April 2011, Porsche caused quite a stir when it presented a new sports car based on its 911 Type 997, adopting the 4.0 engine derived from 911 racing cars: the 500 hp Porsche 911 GT3 R$ 4.0. Limited to 600 units, the Porsche 911 GT3 R$ 4.0 brings together in a road car all the attributes that have made the Porsche 911 GT3 a victorious race car on the racetrack.
This sporty, exclusive model draws its technologies from the very depths of motorsport. The crankshaft of the 911 GT3 RS4.0 flat-six engine is unchanged from that of the six-cylinder engine in the 911 GT3 RSR racing car. Forged connecting rods and pistons are made of titanium. The engine has a displacement of four liters, making it the largest displacement for a flat-six engine produced by Porsche for a road-legal 911. It is also the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine at 125 hp/liter (92 kW). It reaches its maximum power of 500 hp (368 kW) at 8250 rpm. The engine delivers its maximum torque of 460 Nm at 5750 rpm. The current Porsche 911 GT3 RS adopts the same power via a reworked 4.0 l engine. The car was already ahead of its time in 2011.
