The R is the sought-after collector's 991 par excellence and a pure driving machine for purists. The 991 R combines the 500 hp suction engine from the GT3 RS with a manual transmission, does not need a fixed wing and was a sold-out object of speculation right from the start. None other than Walter Röhrl convinced the Porsche board of directors to implement the idea of combining a manually shifted gearbox with the naturally aspirated engine, since even the sporty top model GT3 RS was only available with PDK.
If you drive with the exhaust flap open, you get goosebumps. The sound of the naturally aspirated engine is a racing car sound without frills, real and not artificially programmed. Even fans of the air-cooled models will get their money's worth here.
