Singer Turbo Study inspired by Porsche 930

Today, Singer Vehicle Designs have presented their latest study. This study is inspired by Porsche’s first turbocharged 911, the Porsche 930 Turbo. It is particularly interesting, as it marks Singer’s first approach, on restoring a Porsche 911 with a turbocharged engine, creating a Backdate which has otherwise been only done by the likes of Kaege with their Retro Turbo. Singer Vehicle Design states, that it marks a new chapter of the company. It begins Singer’s third act, following their Classic Study and the Dynamics and Lightweight Study – in short: DLS.

The Singer Turbo Study uses a Porsche 964 Turbo as a starting point

With their latest Restomod, Singer uses a Porsche 964 Turbo chassis to start with. The body is completely redesigned and made from carbon fiber. We haven’t yet received a curb weight, but expect a pretty hefty weight decrease in comparison to the resotration’s Porsche 964 base car. It cites the original 930 Turbos body, including whaletail and shark nose, while optimizing aerodynamics and overall structural rigidity.

The powerplant is based on a 3.8 liter Mezger engine, featuring two turbochargers with electric wastegates and producing around 450 hp. As the owner wanted a more grand touring car, than a pure bred racer, this sounds perfectly reasonable. Especially considering the cars carbon fibre diet. The engine is mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while braking is dealt with carbon ceramics. So the car will stop just as good as it goes.

Singer uses an all wheel drive platform and adds new driving aids

To not only offer performance, but also comfort and usability, Singer has done extensive work on the technology of their first Turbo Backdate/Restoration. It uses an inhouse-built All-Wheel-Drive, ABS and even traction control is on offer. But depending on the customer’s wishes, Rear-Wheel-Drive is still an option. For optimizing the Turbo Study’s GT capabilites, Singer Vehicle Design have significantly reduced cabin noises and opted for a softer, more compliant suspension setup. Electrically adjustable, heated seats and air-conditioning round up the Singer Turbo Study’s creature comforts.

With the color combination, Singer’s customer went for pretty tasteful, not at all flashy options. On the outside, the car is painted in a beautifully light blue, called Wolf Blue. On the inside, in true Singer fashion, you can see the finest leathers, money can buy, this time presented in Malibu Sand. Its finishing touches aren’t to everyones taste, but we think, the Black Forest Wood offers a pretty nice contrast to the bright seats.

The first chance to see the Singer Turbo Study will be at Goodwood 2022

For all North Americans, there is another date planned at Monterey in Northern California for Car Week in August 2022.
