With the Porsche 928, the sports car manufacturer from Zuffenhausen offered a top-class Gran Turismo car from 1977 that broke with old traditions: front engine, eight-cylinder, tailgate – all of this was previously known mainly from other manufacturers. The new top model promptly polarized at the Geneva Motor Show of the same year. While some observers praised the clarity of the lines, others even described them as "terrorist".
The 928 started to replace the 911 in the group program. As we know today, he did not succeed in this. The two internal rivals, each addressing different types of buyers, were too different, so that finally (and in retrospect fortunately) a peaceful coexistence came about. In any case, the design of the 928 proved to be timeless and modern, honored by the customers, so that the 928 was built for a whopping 18 years. Until it was discontinued in 1995, its outward appearance remained almost unchanged despite some model updates. In 1987 there was another such revision when the 928 S4 emerged from the 928 S. In the S4, the engine and body were further optimized, the 5.0-liter V8 with four-valve technology now developed 320 hp. There was also a rounded front section with air inlets and a black wing protruding from the body at the rear. In 1989 production was expanded to include the 928 GT. GT and S4 ran parallel to each other from 1989 to 1991.
In this auction, a Porsche 928 is exclusively offered for sale as a GTS. This Über-928 was first registered on April 27, 1992 at the Porsche plant in Weissach, the Porsche development center. There the Porsche was moved as a pre-series vehicle or prototype, so it is a so-called 0-series Porsche, i.e. 0-series vehicle, 0-series engine and 0-series gearbox. Codes: 734,735,00641. The second owner of the Porsche 928 GTS was a Porsche racing driver. Then it was moved by a doctor for 6 years and then it was owned by privateers for 8 and 13 years respectively. The GTS is of course ready to drive and has a fresh MOT, which is valid until March 2023. An H mark is not yet available due to age. Always in the possession of true Porsche enthusiasts, the 928 has received regular maintenance and is therefore in full service. According to the previous owner, the vehicle is accident-free, and there is nothing to indicate any past accident damage.
The Porsche is painted in the wonderful midnight blue metallic and is therefore a real eye-catcher. The front apron, fenders and side panels were repainted due to stone chips or scratches. This work was carried out professionally and is therefore not noticeable. The paint shows minimal signs of wear corresponding to the age and the mileage – but no defects that are explicitly mentioned here. The 928 GTS is externally unmodified and is therefore in its original condition. Visually, it differs from the conventional 928 through a widened rear and the continuous light strip. In addition, the rear spoiler of the GTS was painted in the same color as the car.
. The original 17 inch Porsche Cup rims with summer tires are mounted. The tires are specifically new Pirelli tires. No changes were made to the chassis. The condition of the brakes is also very good, they were only renewed about 5,000 KM ago.
The interior impresses with a classic gray leather interior, which is in a very neat condition, without damage. The center panels of the seats are made of multicolor fabric, also in gray. The dashboard, headliner and sun visors are made of flawless leather. The gray leather interior harmonizes perfectly with the beautiful exterior paintwork and can be seen as one of the most beautiful color combinations for classic Porsches. The driver's seat has been reupholstered so that it no longer shows any signs of wear. One part was used on each of the backrests of the rear seats. Optional extras include air conditioning, fully electric seats with memory function, seat heating, electr. Steel sunroof, CD radio, electr. Window, PSD electr. Limited slip differential, central locking, double airbag, automatic transmission, cruise control.
The odometer reading is around 217,000 kilometers and can increase marginally as the vehicle is still moving. The KM status must be proven with the checkbook and is therefore unambiguous. All instruments work perfectly.
In the engine compartment there is the mighty 5,397 cc eight-cylinder in V-shape, with the popular four-speed automatic this produces a total of 257 kW or 350 hp. The engine and transmission are free from defects and run very well. The same applies to the underbody, which is also in perfect condition. Sometimes the tire pressure indicator light comes on, which is a typical 928 topic.
A major inspection was only carried out in March 2021, during which, in addition to changing the timing belt, the air conditioning system was refilled; a corresponding invoice for € 5,359.16 is available. In general, there are various other calculations from around 20 years.
In general, it can be summarized that the 928 GTS drives flawlessly and is well equipped. The interior, like the paintwork and the rims, is in pristine condition. Of the Porsche 928 GTS itself, only around 2,800 vehicles were produced and are therefore already worth collecting. The fact that this Porsche is a prototype makes the vehicle an absolute highlight for every Porsche collector – because Porsche prototypes are extremely rarely offered for sale.
The original checkbook with all the stamps is available and shows the mileage without gaps, which makes this prototype 928 GTS again a real enthusiast vehicle.
