After the completion of the 991 GT3 RS, which was only offered with PDK, the engineers still had the six-speed transmission, which was actually optional, in the drawer. The idea to work in secret on a purist special model – the 991 R – was born. Ultimately, none other than Walter Röhrl was able to convince the board of directors to actually implement this unique concept. The 991 R combines the 500 HP vacuum cleaner from the GT3 RS with manual transmission and does not require a fixed wing. Through the use of many lightweight components and optical elements, it was designed based on the original 911 R from 1967. The edition consists of only 991 pieces and was sold out immediately.
In order to save as much weight as possible, the roof and the hood were made of lightweight construction elements, the front and rear windows are made of plastic. The interior insulation was reduced and the engineers banned the air conditioning, the rear seat and the stereo system from the car. The 911 R thus weighs in at a meager 1370 kilograms and is 50 kilograms lighter than the GT3 RS.
This is one of 261 copies delivered in GT silver metallic and is also attractive because it contains the coveted equipment features such as lift system, Spyder sports bucket seats, 90 liter tank, as well as other special options such as additional carbon elements from the exclusive department. Otherwise, the 911 R offers a tasty blend from the Zuffenhausen racing technology shelf: an exhaust system made of titanium, a mechanical limited-slip differential and ceramic brakes give the 911 R the flavor it needs.
This vehicle is new and delivered. The owner allowed himself just over 5,000 km after he picked up the car on July 22nd, 2016 at the Porsche Center in Münster. Despite the low mileage, the car was last serviced every two years in 2020.
Conclusion: This over-911 embodies the reputation of the past. A special Porsche era in which a handful of engineers and technicians developed a limited vehicle that will probably not be available again in the future. Therefore, this model will prove to be a very valuable investment in the long run.
