WHERE DOES WINZINGER WINE COME FROM?
Burgenland – Lake Neusiedl in Austria: The region around Lake Neusiedl is part of the Pannonian Plain, which is characterized by a relatively dry climate with hot summers and cold winters with plenty of sunshine. The Pannonian climate, with over three hundred days of sunshine a year, also favors viticulture and is partly responsible for the unique character of the wines. The outstanding microclimate of Lake Neusiedl, where the lake stores the sun’s heat during the day and releases it again at night, contributes to the fact that the vines already have a vegetation advantage over other wine-growing areas at a very early stage.
The soils of Mörbisch offer incredible growing conditions and from the approximately 40 grape varieties mainly full-bodied red wines and rich white wines are pressed. Lake Neusiedl is the largest lake in Austria with a length of 33.5 km, a width of up to 12 km and a maximum depth of 1.80m. Including the wide reed belt, the lake measures 285 square meters – 220 square kilometers of which are on the Austrian side and 65 square kilometers on the Hungarian side. The lake is the center of a joint national park, which is home to rare animal species such as gray cattle and zackel sheep, as well as 300 different bird species.
