The RS-C is a Cayman like no other. Inspired by its 911 siblings, it is built with purpose and only the toughest of challenges in mind. This robust rally car focuses on weight reduction, safety, and unique touches. Its design was heavily influenced by KALMAR’s driving experience arm, Beyond Adventure, which has been taking customers to the frozen lakes of Finland, the deserts of Africa or the scorching heat of South America, driving to places few dare to go, for more than 20-years.
Exterior
The outside of the RS-C leaves no doubts about its commitment to the task at hand. Its 80mm raised rally-specification ground clearance is equivalent to that of a Porsche Cayenne. Achieved through the fitment of robust upside-down shock absorbers and enhanced subframes, these provide significant strengthening, equipping the RS-C to cope with extreme surfaces. In addition comes a sturdy strut brace distributing load across the front axle. All bushes are replaced to ensure durability while the driveshafts are also upgraded for higher loads. Finally, a softer spring set and a detachable anti-roll bar further enhance the specification of the RS-C, while an electronic adaptive shock absorber upgrade is also available as an option.
Completing the picture come lightweight off-road wheels and tyres that give the RS-C the ability to travel over hostile terrain, while underbody protection and armour surround the front-mounted water-cooled mechanicals. A bespoke, rear-mounted roof rack houses a spare wheel, 10-litre jerry can, and roof-mounted LED light bar, adding high levels of practicality and driving range to the RS-C. The appearance of the RS-C can be finished with a custom livery, created in collaboration with the customer, ensuring that each car stands out from the crowd.
Technical specifications
The starting point for the KALMAR RS-C is the factory-fitted Porsche flat-six engine producing 300 hp as standard. A range of tuning options are available to increase power, while a limited-slip differential aids traction across all surfaces.
Customers can choose six-speed manual, Tiptronic or PDK automatic gearboxes. Unique, lightweight and narrow 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with all-terrain or World Rally Championship-style spiked winter tyres, complete the purposeful recipe.
Interior
Inside, the cabin of the KALMAR RS-C is functional and surprisingly spacious, the 987’s luggage compartments make it significantly more practical than any 911 of its era, ideal for lengthy overland drives. Following the KALMAR RS mantra, a pair of Recaro sports seats are fitted alongside a rear safety bar. Insulation and the entertainment system are removed to save weight. Those wishing to take things further still can opt to delete the air-conditioning system and airbags in pursuit of the ultimate in weight reduction. As always with KALMAR, it’s possible to go further, adding a full roll cage, fly-off handbrake and trip-master timing system.
