Between 2012-2016, the third generation Boxster/Cayman (981) arrived. Key features included new exterior design elements, wider stance, a vastly improved and stiffer chassis, longer wheelbase, and a larger displacement engine. The 3.4 liter six-cylinder engine offered 315 hp and when coupled to the 7-speed PDK automatic transmission, delivered 0-60 times of 4.5 seconds. Of equal importance, the power convertible top was able to raise or lower in 9 seconds, making it one of the most convenient convertible models to transform from open to closed configuration. With the fourth generation Boxster configured with the four-cylinder engine, these third generation Boxsters have become the last of the original six-cylinder configuration, making them ideally suited as performance cars but even more desirable as future collectable examples.

Maintained and serviced at the same purchasing dealership, the first owner retained the car for less than a year, selling it in November 2014 with just 2,800 miles. The car remained In the Minneapolis area, MN area accumulating just over 14,000 miles before being sold to the current owner, a Western Washington resident, in 2019. Vehicle services under current and prior ownership have been consistent including regular oil and filter changes, emissions and safety inspections.
In preparation for consignment, the car has just been given a major service at a local Porsche specialist (Chris’s German – Redmond, WA) including new spark plugs, drive belt, new air and cabin filters, oil and filter change, and brake fluid flush. The center console features the touch screen infotainment system, PDK selector, with switches and various knobs responsive to the touch. All features function properly including the climate system delivering filtered cabin heat and cool AC, both of which are very effective even when the top is down. The dashboard features the gorgeous and uniquely clustered Boxster instruments in exceptionally nice condition. The SportDesign steering wheel features multiple buttons which easily navigate onboard systems and information access. All interior features and instruments operate as designed including the optional Bose stereo system. The convertible top and sun visors are all uniformly preserved showing virtually no evidence of use in the creases and corners. The top raises and lowers smoothly and swiftly without motor strain or delay. The overall fit and finish of the interior is tidy and cohesive, reflective of a low mile car.
The car starts instantly and idles smoothly. The PDK transmission functions essentially as new with smooth shifting in any of the various modes. The potent 6-cylinder engine provides wonderful sounds even under mild acceleration, with welcomed composure, great roadholding, and confidence when encouraged at higher speeds. As the Boxster S is well known for exceptional handling, delightful ease of use, and Porsche character, this highly optioned offering is an excellent example for the sharp-minded enthusiast, eschewing lengthy waiting periods for brand-new cars accompanied by excessive new-car premiums.
