Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Porsche’s reputation has undoubtedly been built on the back of the 911, but in reality, its business is built on other models. The Boxster isn’t their first attempt to broaden their ownership demographic, but it’s arguably it’s biggest hit.

Whilst it wears similar styling and the same crest, its architecture share’s little in common with its bigger cousin. The engine for one, is in the same catchment area as the driver, mounted neatly in the middle and even though it is a flat six, it’s less powerful, which is no bother given the Boxsters lightweight construction.

Early boxsters had their niggles, but by the time Porsche had launched the second generation 987, they had cracked the recipe and in the process had set a new benchmark for the two-seater sportscar market.

Supplied new in March of 2007 by Porsche Centre Chester, this example is the more desirable, more powerful, Boxster S. Finished in Basalt Black with a black roof, it paints a striking picture. The black paintwork is only broken up by the flashes of silver adorning the side and bumper grilles.

The car sits on a set of factory optioned 19” wheels, borrowed from the Carrera S. Finished in Silver and wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tyres, they have just the right amount of apertures to expose the big, red, Brembo brakes that lurk behind. The car is almost completely standard, except for a set of Cayman exhaust tips, round instead of the factory D-shaped versions. They were fitted early in the car’s life by Porsche Chester and make for a tasteful upgrade that only those in the know would spot.

The interior is understated, but built to exacting standards. The interior is what sets the Boxster apart from its competitors. Good looks are one thing, but you can’t see the outside when you’re driving it, which is why Porsche went to great lengths to bring quality to the masses.

Tactical surfaces are covered in black leather, whilst fascias on the dash are finished in a dark grey. The optional sports seats feature Porsche crests embossed into the headrests and perforated centres. The silver-backed dials show the car has covered just 52,500 miles.

The engine lives beneath a well-insulated cover, accessible through the interior. It’s a 3.4-litre water-cooled flat-six, taken from the Cayman S. Producing around 290bhp, it’ll send the Boxster’s speedo round to 60 in less than 5.5 seconds, with all the power being sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Despite its limited mileage, the car has been regularly maintained, both within the Porsche network and with marque specialists like GT One Ltd and Autostrasse. The full records show:

Boxster ownership for many is an opportunity to dip their toes in the Porsche pool – but these days, you’re able to do that with a Macan or a Cayenne. Today, Porsche’s extended range only serves to highlight the gem that a Boxster is.

A lightweight, mid-engined sports car, with a manual gearbox and a 3.4-litre flat-six engine. There will be a time when that all sounds like madness, so now is the time to get involved and enjoy it for what it is—driving personified.

As with all our vehicles, an entire digital folder is available upon request and contains more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
