Initially launched during the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show the second generation of the 997 Turbo was an instant hit, and our example will certainly appeal to a buyer who is looking for an individual example that will also offer good investment potential.
The second-generation models received a completely new 6-cylinder, 3.8 litre boxer engine delivering 500hp with the revised Borg-Warner (VTG) turbos. Porsche claimed the 911 Turbo would travel from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 194 mph though several well-regarded automotive publications proved that Porsche may have been a little modest in their claims. The looks of the facelifted model were left mainly untouched from the original 997 Turbo, but there are subtle changes to the rear lights, which were enhanced to an LED-type, in addition to changes to the front lamps. The Generation 2 cars shed up to 50kg as part of the improvement process, bringing the overall weight down. Porsche dialled back the turbo boost pressure a touch for extra driveability and keener throttle response. Porsche also revised the engine mounts that came with the Sports Chrono pack to improve chassis tautness. Most important of all were the changes to the ride, improvements to the spring and damper rates meant this car’s whole attitude to poor road surfaces became more forgiving.
