Is there a greater icon than this? It’s hard to imagine. The 996 was developed by Porsche’s motorsport department as a homologation for the racing class of the same name and was the first car in Porsche’s arsenal to be designated GT3. The model is thus unique in Porsche’s history, as it is one of the few road cars that were taken out of regular production to build up the motorsport division, along with Cup cars and other racing versions. The final product speaks for itself. A raw, stripped down 911 with adjustable suspension and bucket seats…. A car so different from a „normal“ 996 that it almost feels like a different car. And although we had already seen lightweight versions of high-performance cars, the 996 GT3 stood out so much that it is now a car that has shaped an entire segment.
