Porsche flew in consultants from Japan to streamline its Zuffenhausen factory. The 911 would no longer be hand-built, but mass produced. The 996 Carrera Coupe made its world debut at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show. Controversially, it bore more than a passing resemblance to the cheaper Boxster, being almost identical ahead of the A-pillar. Lai had spent many hours in a wind tunnel refining the car’s slippery shape and a Cd of just 0.30 was the result, down from 0.33 for the 993. An electric rear spoiler extends at 75mph, then retracts again at 37mph. Mr Lai recalls how he had to fight for the inclusion of the electrically operated rear spoiler to better manage downforce at high speeds, despite the company arguing there wasn’t enough money in the pot for this to be included. Thankfully Lai won through, and the active spoiler was included as standard in the final production specification.
Our Porsche 996 3.6 with manual gearbox is a lovely example of the classic 911 with convertible roof to enjoy the sun as well as the lovely flat-6 3.6 engine note. Her bodywork is overall in very good condition. She is is fully original paint and she has the usual front stone chips and some small scratches on the drivers‘ side wheel arch. The hardtop has been unused. The interior shows her 126.000 km meaning still in very nice condition. Same applies to the soft top, which is in great cosmetic and working condition.
She is a 3 owner car, sold new in Germany at Porsche centrum Kiel and in Belgium since 2007 with her last and same owner. She comes with all her books and 2 sets of keys. The rims have just been redone ( pictures taken before).
The mechanicals are what differentiate a 911 from other sports cars. And her mechanicals are worthy of the Carrera badge. From her engine to her suspension. Everything is in great working order and ready for many more miles.
Do you want to feel the wind in your hair while listening to the sweet sound of a flat-six engine? This might be the car for you.
