The vehicle in detail
Following in the tyre tracks of the other KALMAR Beyond Adventure Range vehicles, the RS-6 has been created to offer the same levels of practicality, usability and rewarding driving dynamics as its original air-cooled relations. A lightweight (1,440kg) sports car that is capable both on and off-road, the RS-6 is equally at home driving across frozen lakes, traversing tricky mountains passes and arid deserts, or negotiating fast, sweeping road routes.
The KALMAR RS-6 can be based on the 996 Carrera 2, Carrera 4, or Turbo platforms, created in left- or right-hand-drive, with manual or automatic gearbox options. Like all KALMAR Automotive models, it is fully customisable; its functional design can be tailored to meet each owner’s desire to reach places other 911s cannot.
Exterior
Developed through KALMAR Automotive’s driving experience arm, KALMAR Beyond Adventure, the RS-6 benefits from a rally-specification featuring increased ground clearance (up by 80mm), delivering total ground clearance of 210mm – equivalent to that of a Porsche Cayenne. This is achieved through a combination of KALMAR developed shock absorbers, roll centre adjusting subframe drops, and wheels with larger off-road tyres. Robust underbody protection measuring up to 8mm thick is joined by additional shielding to protect its front-mounted water-cooled systems from rough terrain.
For longer and more challenging routes, a roof-mounted survival combination of jerry cans and tyre carriers further extend the driving ability of the RS-6, while a high output auxiliary LED light bar supports the factory-fitted headlights to illuminate the route ahead and add to the spectacle of this car. The exterior is finished with a bespoke livery, designed in collaboration with the customer, ensuring that each RS-6 looks totally unique.
Technical specifications
Each RS-6 retains its proven Porsche flat-six engine. Starting with 300hp as standard, a menu of tuning options are available to hike power to well over 500hp.
The KALMAR RS-6 includes a bespoke limited-slip differential for added traction across all surfaces. Of course, the alterations to the chassis are a focus of every RS-6: the bespoke adjustable shock absorbers and custom spring set are joined by a specially engineered subframe kit, top mounts, bushes and upgraded driveshafts. A robust strut brace helps distribute higher loads across the front axle. The lightweight, narrow alloy wheels are paired with Michelin all-terrain or World Rally Championship-style spiked winter tyres.
An optional adaptive shock absorber upgrade continuously monitors and electronically adjusts the suspension system according to surface, pitch and body roll. For those who want to go further still, there is also the option of hydraulic lift shock absorbers that lower the car by around 50mm at the touch of a button, delivering the low slung sports car dynamic for negotiating twisty mountain roads, as well as enjoying higher ground clearance when the car faces sand dunes or rougher tracks.
Interior
KALMAR Beyond Adventure Range maintains the motto “if it is not needed, let’s remove it” and the RS-6 is no different when it comes to the interior. Distinctive inners of the KALMAR RS-6 stay true to the ethos of being lightweight and durable. The cabin comes equipped with cosseting Recaro sports or race bucket seats, along with the protection of a rear roll cage. The quest for lightness stretches to the removal of all sound deadening materials, audio and other convenience features, further enhancing the atmosphere of the fully functional cockpit.
However, like every KALMAR build, everything inside remains customisable. Those wishing to add creative comforts can do so, while others wanting to use the RS-6 in competition can opt to have professional equipment, such as a full roll cage, fly-off handbrake and trip-master timing system added.
