Introduced for the 1997 model year in North America, the Carrera 2S was one of the rarer Porsche 993 variants. The only rear-wheel drive model built with the wider bodywork of the Turbo, the 2S was powered by a 3.6-liter, 282 hp flat-six engine, and featured a unique split-rear grille that paid homage to the 1962 356 B “Twin Grille” Roadster.
This Porsche 993 Carrera 2S is one of just 759 models built for North America during the 1997 model year. Finished in rarely seen Ocean Jade Metallic over a black leather interior, this 2S was specified with the desirable six-speed manual transaxle. Other factory options included painted hardback sport seats, HiFi sound package, Motorsound package, aluminum instrument dials, aluminum shifter and hand brake, as well as 18″ Turbo wheels. Acquired by Rudy Mancinas in 2014, this Carrera 2S now wears additional enhancements including an OEM chin spoiler, Turbo S front brake ducts with driving lights, three-spoke 996 steering wheel, Porsche Classic radio, colored seat belts, brake calipers refinished in Speed Yellow, and wheel centers painted in body color.
Accompanying items include a file of documentation and receipts illustrating the diligence that both Mr. Mancinas and past owners have shown this car.
Weighing slightly less than the all-wheel-drive 4S, the 2S is preferred today by many enthusiasts for its purity and more communicative steering. Registering under 68,000 miles at the time of cataloguing, but appearing like a specimen with half that figure, this special Carrera 2S warrants close attention.
