The third – and last – air-cooled Carrera RS edition, Porsche again went all out visually. In addition to 300 horses, the 993 Carrera RS received a rear spoiler similar to that of the 993 Turbo. The large, fixed rear wing was reserved for the Carrera RS Clubsport (equipment code M471). In general, it comes across as considerably more muscular than its predecessors. The body is much wider, the wheels are multi-piece, the 993 RS is muscular through and through. After the 993 RS’s, the nomenclature for Porsche’s naturally aspirated top models was to change. From the 996 onwards, they were called Porsche 911 GT3’s with the RS designation now only used for the particularly hot GT3s, now called GT3 RS.
This Carrera RS Porsche was delivered new by Porsche Center of St Gallen, Switzerland in August 1995. It has been in this first ownership from new and until its recent purchase by Autosport Designs and subsequent to the United States. it has accumulated just 70,000 kilometers (46,000 miles) from new. This 993 RS is quite a rare find coming from it’s first owner. With only 1,014 units built, an example in such good condition is of course extremely hard to find!
This RS is a rare spec indeed having all original paint. The interior is as per factory when delivered new and with no modifications. It came equipped with the flat spoiler-tail, Recaro special ordered bucket seats and factory air conditioning, making this one of a very few with these desirable options.
The RS is superb and an absolute blast to drive, extremely visceral, fast and nimble yet tractable on the street, also as one would expect from a Porsche with RS designation. It has a surprisingly comfortable ride unlike a full-on race car and therefore creates a wonderful driving experience. Driving at low speeds around town, or cruising on the motorways they are well known to to be a very comfortable ride. Where they really spread their wings are on the twisty back roads and track.
