The Porsche 992 is the latest evolution of the iconic 911. In its current form, the Elfer is a lot wider and the lines are tighter than ever. On the other hand, we see several nods in the design to classic 911 models, more than was the case with its direct predecessor(s). The design of the boot lid at the front and the connection with the front bumper under the LED headlights show strong similarities with those of the 993 and 964. Furthermore, Porsche had decided to move the space for the license plate further down at the back, just like earlier Elfers had. However, this copy puts a stop to that thanks to the SportDesign package with license plate above the sports exhausts instead of between them. The Gentian blue paintwork is a striking shade and therefore goes perfectly with the bright red brake calipers that are hidden behind beautiful 20 / 21 inch (front / rear) Carrera Classic rims. The soft top is traditionally black, but you still want to lower it as quickly as possible. Because although the legendary coupé design is never compromised, the Carrera 4S Cabriolet is of course at its best in terms of driving experience with the roof off.
Interior
No surprises on the inside in terms of colour use: black clearly dominates. The materials used, on the other hand, are special: in addition to a lot of leather, carbon plays a major role in the equally high-quality and high-tech Porsche 992 cockpit. The carbon interior package includes, for example, the carbon fibre trim on the dashboard. Furthermore, the illuminated carbon strips are also made of very expensive carbon. Speaking of lighting: the Light Design package ensures a pleasant atmosphere in the mainly sporty Carrera interior. For example, pay attention to the characteristic clock from the Sport Chrono package, which (fortunately) is still just as analogue as the rev counter – in this case with a white background. Beautifully contrasting Chalk stitching on, among other things, leather Adaptive Sports Seats Plus indicate refinement. The same applies to the Porsche emblems in the headrests, which have a certain attraction on the back of your head when accelerating at full speed. So quickly grab that beautiful GT Sports steering wheel… Because it has that too!
Options & extras
A sporty bit of steering is further encouraged by the presence of rear-axle steering. The turning of the rear wheels also benefits parking. What also turns in bends are the LED headlights – in this case equipped with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) for an optimal light beam under all conditions. Things like Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist / lane change assist also benefit driving safety. For maximum support in improving your lap time, you can make use of the Sport Chrono package, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and the dynamic engine mounts (PADM, Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts). Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), steering wheel heating and heated / cooled Adaptive Sports Seats Plus come in handy both on and off the track. After all, it doesn’t always have to be very fast… Although the sound of the sports exhaust says something completely different! We suspect that the Bose Surround Sound system is going to have a quiet time.
Technology & performance
The 3.0-litre bi-turbo 6-cylinder boxer engine sounds so enthusiastic as the 992 Carrera 4S Cabriolet shoots out of the starting blocks: from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.8 seconds when all 450 horses are unleashed over the front and rear axles. The top speed of 304 km/h is magical and the PDK automatic transmission is a symbol of the world’s best engineering. Innovation can be this exciting! Even a 911 Classic fan will agree with us…
Kind regards,
team Prins.
