As the full lightweight, stripped out Carrera RS was never offered for the North American market, Porsche wanted to keep enthusiasts satisfied on this side of the pond and created the RS America offered both in Coupe and Roadster form. The RS America was a lightened derivative of the narrow-body Carrera 2. It featured a unique fixed rear spoiler, RS scripts on the rear deck lid and quarter panels, a lightweight sporty interior featuring cloth sport seats, Red cloth door pulls and Red seatbelts (rear seats, cruise control and power steering were deleted to save weight). Performance wise, the RS America was fitted with 17-inch Cup wheels and M030 sport suspension with upgraded shock absorbers from the 911 Turbo. The 3.6 Liter Flat 6-cylinder engine produced 247bhp and 228 lb-ft of torque mated to the G50 5-speed manual gearbox.
This RS was optioned with an electric sliding sunroof, Limited Slip Differential and Porsche AM/FM radio with cassette player. Produced on April 17, 1992 as a 1993 model, this RS America was originally sold through Prestige Imports of Lakewood, Colorado and serviced there throughout its first ownership. The RS was then sold to its second owner, a collector in Ohio in 2001 with just 1,695 miles. Owned by another collector since, this RS has always seen exceptional care as seen by its all original concours condition.
This RS America includes its original books, tool kit, tire compressor, spare wheel, original factory brochure and spec sheet, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The inside of the hood is signed by racing legend, Vic Elford, who supervised Porsche to create this lightweight, track-focused RS America. Serviced when and where needed, it is immaculate throughout and not normally found in this pristine, all original condition with just 2,500 miles. A superb opportunity to own a very limited and rare air-cooled Porsche. It is turn-key ready for immediate collectability and touring pleasure.
