For over a decade, the World Sportscar Championship, in its Group C form, witnessed an unparalleled era of dominance by the Porsche 956/962—a feat unmatched both before and after—as these legendary machines secured victory after victory in race after race. The list of honours includes seven overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, six Daytona 24 Hours victories, and four wins at the Sebring 12 Hours. In total, it won 39 World Championship events and 55 IMSA races.

This particular car, chassis 962-147, was completed in late 1989 and sold new to Japan Team Taisan. It raced under Alpha Advan livery in the 1990 All Japan Championship and also participated in the Japanese round of the World Endurance Championship at Suzuka. The best result of the car’s career was a sixth-place finish in the Suzuka 1000 km with Kunimitsu Takahashi and Kazuo Mogi.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Between 2014 and 2016, #147 underwent a comprehensive restoration by Porsche specialists Freisinger in Karlsruhe, using only original factory parts. The car was completely disassembled, and reassembled in „like-new“ condition. Subsequent maintenance and racetrack operations were managed by the Group C specialist, RWS Motorsport.

Following its restoration, an FIA Historic Technical Passport was issued for #147. The car has since participated in prestigious events such as the Le Mans Classic in 2016 and 2018, as well as the Hungaroring Classic in 2017. Notably, at the 2016 Le Mans Classic, Romain Dumas drove #147—the same year he clinched victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Porsche 919.

In 2018, for safety and performance reasons, a fully adjustable BILSTEIN MDS 1 suspension system was installed, along with a new 4-piston BREMBO fixed caliper brake system. This upgrade included steel flex brake lines, modified master brake cylinders, and newly developed, reinforced brake disc pots made of high-strength aluminum for the floating brake discs.

An FIA crack test was conducted in 2019. Beyond the required checks, all critical and highly stressed chassis points were x-rayed. During the same year, a new engine was installed along with a newly manufactured FT 3 fuel tank with new fuel lines, filters, and fuel pumps.

To achieve the perfect look, the car was repainted in its original „Grand Prix“ white in April 2021. For added safety, high-strength CroMo wheel carriers were installed. These components were exclusively used in the Porsche works cars during the final two years of the Group C series. Thanks to their unique geometry, the car is now capable of utilizing full carbon brake discs.

In late summer 2023, before the current owner—a well-known Swedish collector and friend of Motikon—purchased the car, it underwent a major service. Notably, it was driven by ex-Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver and Porsche Le Mans winner Stefan Johansson at the inaugural Aurora Concours in July 2024.

To conclude, this Porsche 962C is a completely restored, well maintained and highly original example of one of the most successful racing cars of all time, A rarity considering so many 962C were customised by the customer teams. Since the new engine was fitted in August 2019, #147 has been driven only 150 km. The car comes race ready with its FIA historical passport, an extra set of Speedline Magnesium wheels, an Epson Racing computer, Passengerseat, Air jack system, various documentation including a Technical X-Ray Report, and a full photofile from the Freisinger restoration. Prior to delivery the car will be serviced with all new fluids. Documentation, pictures and videos can be provided upon interest. Do not hesitate to get in touch.
