Long considered the go-to affordable vintage Porsche, many transaxle models have been cherished and driven extensively for over 40 years. Known for their durability, these cars—especially the 944 Turbo—often accumulate hundreds of thousands of miles. As a result, finding a high-quality low-mileage, original example with a known history that includes many delivery items is no easy feat.
This particular 1987 944 Turbo is one of these rare examples. Completed in February 1987 in Guards Red over a Black partial leather interior, this 217-horsepower 944 was originally sold through Scholfield Imports of Wichita, Kansas, to Dennis Rieschick. As noted on a copy of the original window sticker, the car was optioned with a Blaupunkt Reno radio and Touring Package for an additional $2,266 that included a rear window wiper, cruise control, alarm system, and an electric sunroof. According to service records from the era, Rieschick drove the car regularly reaching 9,843 miles by February 1991.
The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the car had only reached 15,573 miles by 2004 and, by the time Rieschick parted with the Guards Red Turbo in 2006, it had become a very collectible Porsche indeed. The second owner retained the car until 2022, an ownership span of 18 years.
Today this very original Porsche 944 Turbo is offered with a number of original delivery items that are often lost over numerous ownership changes and neglect—certainly something that example does not suffer from. Included among the items are a copy of its original window sticker, its owner’s manuals including its original service book, early service paperwork, and sales brochures. All told, this is one of the more complete and well-documented 944 Turbos offered for sale in recent memory.
